It would be great to see new AltDVB with AAC, E-AC3 and HEVC support. It’s now nearly ten years since last stable version and I’m still using AltDVB. Please give a sign that You are still there Altx 😉

I’m glad to see that AltDVB is still used by some people! Restarting app development after 10 years of inactivity in not a very easy task…but there is hope: a few more weekends of work and I’ll publish a new version.

Hard to believe in your comeback Altx…
I was asking over the net many times, during these years, what happened to you. Nobody was able to answer…
Many people are still using ALTDVB including myself.
Hope it’s all true, regarding your “comeback”…
    All the best

Fantastic news. I was using Altdvb from 2005 to 2009 dvb-s, sdtv. best programm out there. then stopped. in 2015 I build a new PC and started with satdx again and what can I say. tried a few programms but was so happy there was a working version of altdvb with tbs 6983 card available. stable, flexible and faultless while recording. Very happy to hear you get well altx and planing a new version. just one wish, keep the goods (high flexibility, many parameters for individual change). for me the donation system would be fine like ebs pro.

I wonder when it will be released the new version

  38. March 15, 2017 9:40 pm | #38

Maybe somebody will find this info useful:
After yesterday patches from Microsoft AltDVB will crash at Windows 10 x64 if Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder is in use. If somebody will ran into this issue – change DirectShow filter to other, eg. install LAV Video Decoder (x86).
If AltDVB is crashing at launch (because last channel is using Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder) – open Configs/Options.cfg and delete LastChannel value.
Don’t know if this will occur also at Windows 7/8 (no machine to test it).

  39. March 19, 2017 12:56 am | #39

Update to issue mentioned above: problem is for any DVB player or other media player at Windows 10 if Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder is in use for MPEG-2 content and Microsoft DVD Player is installed. Related to KB4013429 and changes in CompPkgSup.dll. Some infos are at codecguide.com – so that’s Microsofts fault (as usually 🙂 ), not related to AltDVB itselt 😉

@Altx – not sure if you’re still around, but I wanted to say that you made a great program here and I’ve used it a huge amount over the years. I still use it every day. Nothing else is quite the same, even paid software. I don’t know how it even still works so well in modern 64-bit Windows, but I’m glad it does.

    @Altx
Dear Altx, you are a legend in the world of DVB Players!!
What you wrote in 2006 is still used in 2017-2018 and no other program has ever came close to AltDVB!
I am a programmer myself and I know how much time and effort you have put into this piece of pure ARTWORK.
Every bit of screen is used in a very unique way for the right icon and button. Everything is just where it should be.

I hope you can find the time to update it.

By the way, have you ever thought of making it an opensource project so it can live forever?
I know people and even companies can steal your code and use it for their benefit, but if you are not planing to earn money from ALTDVB, it can be released under an opensource license.

I always think of Gabest (Creator of Media Player Classic) who stopped working on it and released it under Opensource licence.

I think it is a pity for such a treasure to be lost!!

    Best wishes

  51. Altx

    @MoZa
Thank you for the appreciations ! I really want to be an active user and not a legend, but in life not all things are the way we want.
The AltDVB project is not abandoned, but unfortunately I have quite a bit of time to work on it. I wish to go back in time until those days when I could spend a whole weekend working on the project…

Waiting for the legend come back… I’m still using AltDvb and didn’t wan’t to update my winxp afraid it wouldn’t have worked….. In spite of years passed AltDvb is simply the best for perofrmace, user frendly interface and a lot of little and big details. No hope for the other players to bring near it.
I hope you can find the time to update it, it would be wonderful.

Thank from all the world of satellite dxers, Altx

    Hi AltX,

Is good to know that the project is still on.
Really is the best dvb player ever.
I try a lot of players but none is like this one.
unfortunately is not working for DVB-S2, HEVC, EVR and 4K.
    An update will be great.
I really hope will see soon the reborn of Altdvb

    Thank you for your work

    February 16, 2018 8:42 pm | #56

To SatLinkX: Now I accept 4K with hevc as follows: I install the LAV codec and manually set the 8psk modulation when tuning the dvb scanner. Then I will assign station 4k and record. The picture is not visible. Then I run the player (VLC, HMPC) and I see the picture 4k and I also have timeshift function 🙂 Try it.

thanks for the great program, it’s strong , fast , and use less pc resources
but i have to issues if any one can help
1- some times in random way it cause error message say unexception error in DvbAvSrc.ax and i have to close a lot of error window and restart altdvb again
any one know how to solve that?
2-arabic epg is wrong character!!(cyrillic ,greek or Coptic letter or very strange letter like ӫ)
some people by reverse engineering i guess changed the font to one that support arabic and epg show arabic but a few letters are wrong! (for example letter ى should be ل and letter ӫ should be ة )
is there any way to fix that?
3-he doesn’t support multi language epg, so if there is arabic and english epg he show only one of them and there is no option to switch between them
4-support of time shift and golden osd always crash

any one have a solution to any of those problem
    Thanks

Hi! Thanks for this great software! I still use it as main player for DVB signals.
If a new version of AltDVB will ever be released, and I hope so, I would suggest you to add a field for “LCN” number, so it would be possible to order channels by “channel number”. You may find this number under the SDT tables, and also in the NIT table. Not all providers use LCN, but in some countries is quite common, especially on DVB-T.
